GPT-6.1 Sol
Near-Astra coding. $1/$5 on llmrelay — half the $2/$10 list. Same id: gpt-6.1-sol.
OpenAI introduced GPT-6.1 Sol (openai.com/index/introducing-gpt-6-1-sol/). API id gpt-6.1-sol. Official short-context list $2/$10. Same id on llmrelay, billed from prepaid credit at $1 input / $5 output per million tokens — half that list. ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus+; OpenAI says not yet available in Chat. Claude Opus 5 remains the site flagship; 6.1 Sol is listed.
Source: OpenAI’s introducing-gpt-6-1-sol announcement, the developers.openai.com gpt-6.1-sol model page, and the OpenAI pricing table. Fast mode is 2× Standard; Batch/Flex 50% lower than Standard; Regional +10%. Official short-context list $2/$10. On llmrelay the same id is $1/$5 (half list), billed from prepaid credit. Listed 2026-10-04, channel 2.
What Is GPT-6.1 Sol? Near-Astra Coding at One-Fifth the Price
GPT-6.1 Sol is OpenAI’s upgrade to GPT-6 Sol. The official API id is gpt-6.1-sol. OpenAI says it nearly matches GPT-6 Astra on agentic coding, computer use, and professional work at one-fifth of Astra’s standard input/output token prices.
Specs from the developers.openai.com model page: context 1,050,000; max input 922,000; max output 128,000. Knowledge cutoff 30 April 2026. Input is text and image; output is text. reasoning.effort supports low, medium (default), high, xhigh, and max. none and minimal are not supported. Responses API is for tool calling; Chat Completions is supported without tool calling.
Data residency: US and EU. Fast mode is unavailable with EU residency. OpenAI’s announcement says Ultrafast is coming in the following days, up to 8× faster token generation in Codex — that is a forthcoming claim, not something this page treats as live. Alignment write-up: system card addendum at deploymentsafety.openai.com/gpt-6-1-sol.
How Does GPT-6.1 Sol Compare to GPT-6 Sol on OpenAI’s Deltas?
OpenAI frames 6.1 as the upgrade to GPT-6 Sol. Most announcement benches are published as deltas, not absolute scores. This page repeats those deltas and does not invent percentages OpenAI omitted. GPT-6 Sol is OpenAI’s prior Sol id — it is not the same as GPT-5.6 Sol on llmrelay.
- +DeepSWE v1.1 — +6.4 percentage points versus GPT-6 Sol’s best score, at lower effort/cost. OpenAI did not publish the absolute DeepSWE % on the announcement page.
- +AutomationBench — +4.8 percentage points versus GPT-6 Sol at the same setting.
- +OSWorld 2.0 offline partial — +7 percentage points versus GPT-6 Sol at max effort.
- +Terminal-Bench Science 0.1 — more than doubles GPT-6 Sol at max effort.
- +Factuality — low-effort factual-error share 11.4% → 7.7% versus GPT-6 Sol (~32% reduction).
- +Alignment — OpenAI says 6.1 is closer to Astra than GPT-6 Sol is.
How Much Does GPT-6.1 Sol Cost? $2/$10 and $0.10 Cached Input
Standard short-context list from OpenAI: $2 input / $0.10 cached input / $2.50 cache writes / $10 output per million tokens.
Long context (more than 272K input tokens): $4 / $0.20 / $5 / $15 for the full request. Fast mode is 2× Standard. Batch and Flex are 50% lower than Standard. Regional is +10%.
OpenAI’s positioning against Astra is price, not a different unit: one-fifth of Astra’s standard in/out token prices. That is OpenAI’s list comparison. On llmrelay the invoice is $1/$5 per million tokens.
Prices are OpenAI’s published list plus llmrelay half-list. Listed 2026-10-04 at $1/$5. GPT-6 Astra remains listed at $5/$25 if you need the larger SKU: GPT-6 Astra.
Is GPT-6.1 Sol Available via API? Codex and ChatGPT Work, Not Chat
Yes on OpenAI’s API. Yes on llmrelay as of 4 October 2026, id gpt-6.1-sol, $1/$5.
- +OpenAI API — official id gpt-6.1-sol on developers.openai.com. Responses API for tool calling; Chat Completions without tool calling.
- +ChatGPT Work and Codex — Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, Edu. OpenAI says not yet available in Chat.
- +llmrelay — listed 2026-10-04. Id gpt-6.1-sol, $1 input / $5 output per million tokens (half OpenAI short-context list). Prepaid credit.
Request gpt-6.1-sol on llmrelay the same way you request gpt-6-astra. Prepaid credit, no subscription.
Is GPT-6.1 Sol Close Enough to GPT-6 Astra for Real Work?
OpenAI’s claim is near-Astra on agentic coding, computer use, and professional work at about one-fifth of Astra’s standard in/out prices. Where the announcement gives a number, it is usually a delta or a cost/task — not a full score table.
- +DeepSWE v1.1 — matches Astra at ~1/5 cost. No absolute % on the announcement.
- +GDP.pdf — approaches Astra at ~1/5 cost. No absolute % on the announcement.
- +OSWorld 2.0 offline partial — within 2.1 percentage points of Astra at ~1/7 cost.
- +Terminal-Bench Science 0.1 — cost/task at max: GPT-6.1 Sol $5.47 versus Astra $23.80. Astra still has the highest score at 68.1%.
- +Factuality — within 1.9 percentage points of Astra’s error rate at less than 1/5 cost.
GPT-6 Astra remains the live GPT flagship on llmrelay. 6.1 Sol is the cheaper OpenAI SKU on OpenAI’s own API. This page does not treat those as interchangeable inventory.
Can I Use GPT-6.1 Sol in Codex or ChatGPT? Plus, Pro, Not Chat
OpenAI: ChatGPT Work and Codex for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu. OpenAI says it is not yet available in Chat. Developers can call gpt-6.1-sol on the OpenAI API. Ultrafast is described as coming in the following days, up to 8× faster token generation in Codex.
That is also llmrelay’s path now. Point Codex or an OpenAI-compatible client at llmrelay and request gpt-6.1-sol. Listed 2026-10-04 on channel 2.
GPT-6 Astra remains listed at $5/$25 if you want the larger SKU (GPT-6 Astra). GPT-5.6 Sol is a previous generation (GPT-5.6 Sol), not this id.
What Is the GPT-6.1 Sol Context Window? 1.05M, 922K In, 128K Out
OpenAI’s model page: 1,050,000 context tokens, 922,000 max input, 128,000 max output.
Knowledge cutoff is 30 April 2026. Requests with more than 272K input tokens bill at the long-context list for the full request, not only the overflow.
GPT-6.1 Sol vs Claude Opus 5.5: Cost Per Task, Not Version Numbers
OpenAI published Opus 5.5 comparisons as deltas and cost/task, not a full side-by-side score table. The lines below are those claims only.
- +GDP.pdf — OpenAI says GPT-6.1 Sol scores higher than Opus 5.5 with fallbacks at less than half cost/task. No absolute % on the announcement.
- +AutomationBench — +2.2 percentage points versus Opus 5.5 at medium effort, about 1/3 cost.
- +Terminal-Bench Science 0.1 — cost/task at max: GPT-6.1 Sol $5.47 versus Opus 5.5 $23.21 versus Astra $23.80. Astra still has the highest score at 68.1%.
Both ids are listed on llmrelay as of 4 October 2026: Opus 5.5 at /models/claude-opus-5-5/ ($2/$10) and GPT-6.1 Sol on this page ($1/$5). Previous Claude generation: Claude Opus 5.
Vendor claims, vendor numbers. Independent verification is a separate question, and this page does not claim it.
Why Is GPT-6.1 Sol So Slow in Codex? 20 Tokens/Sec Reports
OpenAI’s developers.openai.com page does not publish a tokens-per-second SLA. It does say Fast mode is 2× Standard, and the announcement says Ultrafast is coming in Codex at up to 8× faster token generation. Those are vendor speed claims, not a live Codex measurement on this page.
Last two days on Reddit, the question people actually asked is “why is 6.1 crawling?” Highest-signal thread pulled with rdt-cli: r/codex — “GPT-6.1 Sol feels unlimited, because it runs at 20 tokens per second” (30 Sep 2026, score 1266, 449 comments). OP, using a table they had Opus 5.5 assemble, said 6.1 Sol was about 2.5× slower than GPT-6 Sol and 2.3× slower than 5.6 Sol. Top comments: “slow as a snail,” “does a pretty good job though,” “now you can pay for fast mode to get the same speed as before.” Auto-summary after 400 comments: consensus was Sol 6.1 is painfully slow in Codex even when quality is fine.
Treat that as user telemetry, not an OpenAI spec. If you need a GPT id llmrelay can call today, that is still GPT-6 Astra.
Does GPT-6.1 Sol Burn Less Weekly Plus/Pro Allowance than Astra?
OpenAI’s published list: 6.1 Sol standard short-context $2 / $10 versus Astra $10 / $50 (developers.openai.com pricing table). Cached input on 6.1 Sol is $0.10. That is API list, not a ChatGPT weekly credit formula. OpenAI does not publish “how many weekly allowance units per 1M tokens” on the announcement page.
Reddit questions from 1–2 Oct 2026 (rdt-cli):
- +r/ChatGPTPro — “GPT 6.1 Near Astra and Usage limit in Plus and Pro”. Replies: one $100-plan user could not feel a quality gap vs Astra High in Codex but said 6.1 “doesn’t gobble usage as quickly”; another used 6.1 max ~8–10h/day and had 66% left until next Wednesday, “slow as fuck, but the value is there”; a third tried 6.1 on long R&D and switched back to Astra (“leaves gaps… forgets things”).
- +r/OpenAI — “how different models consume the weekly subscription allowance”. OP asked whether cheaper API list (6.1 Sol cached input) means slower weekly burn. No official multiplier in that thread.
- +r/ChatGPT — 14-model photo-to-Blender bench (2 Oct). Author: Astra 66/100 at $3.91/attempt; GPT-6.1 Sol 61/100 at $0.36. Independent of OpenAI’s DeepSWE write-up; not an llmrelay test.
Community numbers stay labeled as community numbers. This page does not invent a Plus/Pro credit rate.
